UK Private Sewer Adoption – PRESS RELEASE
With OFWAT’s decision not to provide additional funding to companies who take over the ownership and management of private sewers in June 2011, it seems imperative that a proactive approach is taken by these organizations to position themselves to ensure that maximum allowances are awarded going into the next Asset Management Programme (AMP 6) period in 2015.
“Good quality asset data is the key to securing maximum regulatory allowances.” – Richard Johnson, Business Development Manager.
At this time where large numbers of companies are dramatically increasing the size of their asset base and associated operational costs there will be fierce market competition to secure maximum regulatory allowances. With a finite budget at its disposal, the regulator will no doubt look more favorably at those organizations who can present a strong and substantiated business case.
With such a lot at stake it’s important that water and sewerage companies realize the importance of data, not only from a financial perspective but also for the effective and efficient day to day management of the newly acquired assets.
“At no other time has the quality of data been so important.” – Richard Johnson, Business Development Manager.
With its extensive experience in providing a wide range of Data Management Services to some of the world’s largest utility and telecommunications companies QC Data is an ideal partner to assist in positioning your business in readiness for the next AMP review period.

Verify Improvements for QC Data UK Limited
United Kingdom, (March 22, 2010) – This year QC Data UK Limited has once again improved its already creditable performance under the Achilles Verify program for Safety, Health, Environment and Quality, having been accredited for the first time in 2007. Achilles’ supplier management schemes improve the efficiency of the procurement cycle while promoting health and safety, environmental management and wider corporate responsibility in the supply chain. Our accreditation not only provides assurances to potential customers surrounding the standard of our company systems, but is critical to the retention of a number of our current contracts where it is a prerequisite to doing business.
External audit is conducted annually and to date has consisted of a regional and satellite office audit every two years, and an interim satellite office audit every year. This year the interim audit was conducted at our new Dartford office and produced outstanding results with improvement in all three areas when compared to 2009’s outcomes:
| 2009 | 2010 | |
| H&S | 82.3% | 92.7% |
| Environmental | 78.5% | 87.5% |
| Quality | 90.9% | 92.7% |
The challenges associated with meeting the extensive criteria for this accreditation are significant. It is testimony to both our company systems and the effective implementation of them by the management and team in Dartford that we were able to secure such high marks. The standard set this year provides a high benchmark for subsequent years when continued accreditation will depend on successful annual audits at both regional and satellite offices.

Dartford Team Host Charity Day
United Kingdom, (February 11, 2010) – On 18th December 2009 QC Data’s Dartford-based team arranged a charity day with all proceeds being donated to the Robyn Higgins Trust.
Robyn is a local child recently diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma – an aggressive and rare childhood cancer. Whilst she has endured grueling treatment in the UK, the preventative antibody therapy she so desperately needs to fight this disease is not available in this country. Her family faced the challenge of raising the £300,000 necessary for Robyn to be treated in the United States.
Keen to help them in their efforts, the Dartford team hosted an International Buffet Day; took part in a sponsored hair removal; organized a raffle; and encouraged contributions from the other companies in their building. In recognition of their tremendous efforts and generosity, QC Data matched their contribution and £1250 was presented to the Trust.
Whilst the £300, 000 target has not quite been reached, a Philadelphia hospital agreed to begin treatment whilst fundraising continues. Robyn’s mother reports that the antibody therapy appears to have improved her daughter’s original prognosis by 20%. Robyn’s progress can be tracked through her mother’s blog at www.robynhiggins.com.
QC Data and the Dartford team are pleased to have contributed to this worthy cause. Our thoughts are with Robyn and her family as her treatment progresses.

QC Data – A Solution to Asset Data Inaccuracy
United Kingdom, (July 29, 2005) – New research recently published by LogicaCMG found that despite the fact that 84% of UK utility companies recognized that industry regulators were driving a need for better asset data, some 39% are still unsure of the financial investment being made to improve data quality.
Industry regulation has placed pressure on UK utility and telecommunications companies to collect increasingly more and higher quality data on their physical assets. However, the value of data is still not viewed by many senior managers in the same way as the physical assets of the company. Thus, many companies fail to fully exploit the intelligence which they hold within the organization when making investment and operational decisions.
Small improvements in data accuracy and accessibility can easily translate into significant improvements in business performance. Research further indicates that one-fifth of UK utility companies have never undertaken a detailed data assessment to provide them with a clear understanding of: what data is held, where gaps occur and what needs to be done to improve the quality of the data.
QC Data, the world’s premier provider of asset data management services to utility and telecommunication companies specializes in the maintenance and management of the whole lifecycle of asset data for infrastructure businesses.
QC Data has witnessed a significant increase in the amount of data being collected and processed over the last five years. However, there has not been a corresponding effort undertaken for improving the quality of existing data until the regulatory demands force the situation to improve. This often results in costly time pressures that must be applied to the removal of backlogs of engineering records posting and the cleansing of existing databases.
Additionally, the requirement for UK utilities to migrate all national mapping data to Mastermap by 2008, and the requirements for data accuracy demanded by the Traffic Management Act and associated Streetworks provisions, along with the requirement to apply interim (pre-build or pre-survey) additions to the landbase to allow planning activities to be undertaken, further exacerbates the problem. This is creating a situation where, budgetary constraints aside, there is inadequate experienced resource within a utility to respond competently to these challenges.
Whilst 80% of utility companies will probably mention that adherence to data policies are part of their key business performance indicators, only one-third of utility companies have conducted a detailed data assessment in the past six months. In fact approximately 33% of electric utility companies have never undertaken such a review.
QC Data are experts in the management, maintenance and quality control of asset infrastructure data for some of the world’s largest utility and telecommunication companies. We understand asset data and can provide the necessary expertise to assist, supplement or substitute for in-house resources and successfully undertake all forms of data projects, including migration, cleansing, conversion, QA/QC, workorder posting, etc. To learn more about how QC Data can help your organization, contact us at info@qcdata.com.

QC Data Acquires Emery DataGraphic Inc.
Calgary, Alberta (June 9, 2004) – QC Data (http://www.qcdata.com), has acquired the Denver-based data conversion and migration services firm Emery DataGraphic, Inc. (EDG) (http://www.edgis.com)
On announcing the acquisition, QC Data President and CEO, Michael L. Pfeiffer, said, “Our goal in pursuing EDG was to bring to QC Data a complementary set of services under a Service Bureau umbrella to augment our business process outsourcing capabilities. EDG provides QC Data with world-class data conversion and migration technology, industry leading expertise and a strong customer base.”
“We fully expect to leverage EDG’s technical capabilities within our current customer environments, and we plan to introduce our outsourcing services offerings to EDG’s customer base,” said Pfeiffer.
EDG, like QC Data, has been in business for well over 20 years. Its President, Bob Ordway, said joining with QC Data creates a robust Service Bureau not currently available in the marketplace. “We have developed the industry’s most efficient data conversion and migration technologies with a proven track record which provides us a strong competitive advantage,” said Ordway. “Further, we are leveraging our technical capabilities to provide telecommunications and utility customers with the capability to post engineering work orders within a client’s site or remotely from any of QC Data’s operational locations.”
Pfeiffer said the combined service offerings will bring significant benefits to customers, including enhanced value propositions, great delivery flexibility, expanded technical capabilities and the assurance of a financially strong service provider.
In addition, noted Pfeiffer, the acquisition of EDG’s technology will enable QC Data to provide records posting services to customers from any number of remote operations sites in the company’s North American, United Kingdom or Ireland facilities. “Our outsourcing model historically has been to provide services locally, directly within customer facilities using their software environments. We believe that hiring locally and having our service teams on-site within our customer environments remains our primary business process outsourcing model. However, in the some cases where there are space limitations and other operational considerations, EDG’s technology allows us the flexibility to provide posting and other services remotely,” said Pfeiffer.
The combined QC Data-EDG organization will have more than 800 staff fully dedicated to data services for utility and telecommunication organizations. EDG will continue to operate out of its Denver area production facility until later this year when it is expected that QC Data’s Denver regional office will co-locate with EDG’s operations in a new and larger Denver area facility. All key EDG personnel will remain in place.
Under terms of the acquisition, QC Data has acquired all outstanding shares of EDG. QC Data, a privately held company with corporate offices in Calgary, Alberta, is not releasing information regarding the purchase details of EDG.
“Bob Ordway and I have worked tirelessly to bring our two companies together under the QC Data family,” said Pfeiffer. “Individually, our two companies were on strong growth paths. Collectively, I expect our opportunities to reach new customers with a rich set of service offerings to increase well beyond what either company could have accomplished on their own.”
